Telma, a pro-Government TV station, reports that prosecutors are investigating an alleged incident when air traffic control radars stopped operating at an unspecified moment recently.

Interior Minsiter Oliver Spasovski and SDSM party officials claimed that such incident occurred, as part of their defense of Government Secretary General Dragi Raskovski, who recently had an audio tape leaked showing him involved in discussions over the procurement of radar equipment. The equipment was purchased with an EBRD loan, and Raskovski is heard discussing the three potential bidders, an Italian, French and Spanish company.

The Expres news site, which published the leaked tape, says it raises questions about potential corruption in the Government and influencing the outcome of the bidding procedure. Raskovski defends himself claiming that he had to act because an incident happened.

According to Telma, the incident report is classified. The Government, on the other hand, is not reporting in what capacity was Raskovski, who is Prime MInister Zaev’s right hand man, present at a meeting where the competing offers were discussed. The contract was worth 7.7 million EUR, and EBRD announced in 2012 that it will provide loans for the air traffic control in Macedonia, but this exact procurement can’t be found on their website, or on the website of the Macedonian public procurement bureau.

Telma reports that the Spanish company, Indra, made a lower offer than the one provided by the Italian Leonardo, but Leonardo ultimately won the bid.
