United Nations estimates show that Macedonia will lose 28.8 percent of its population by the end of the century.
According to the UN report, the Balkans and Eastern Europe will be among the worst hit global regions by population decline.
Neighboring countries like Bulgaria and Serbia are expected to drop even further than Macedonia, with a population decrease of 50.5 and 38.5 percent respectively. Moldova and Bosnia are also among the worst affected countries in the region, with estimated declines of 53.8 and 48.9 percent.
