The Education Ministry demoted inspector Georgi Ilievski, who became a celebrity after publicly speaking out about abuse perpetrated by Education Minister Arbr Ademi.
Ilievski revealed that Ademi and Deputy Interior Minister Agim Nuhiu, both powerful officials of the DUI party, were promoted as lecturers in the state ran Tetovo University, and both decision were made in violation of the law. After realizing that his service, tasked with reviewing the work of state ran education institutions, won’t lift a finger in this case, Ilievski went public. The whistleblower was able to draw a lot of media attention, which led to a disciplinary procedure against him, under the charge that he did not have authority to speak publicly on the issue.
Last week journalists were turned back when they asked to attend the disciplinary hearing, allegedly because the room was too small. Today it was revealed that Ilievski was demoted one level in the service. Contacted by journalists, Ilievski said that he has still not been officially informed and if true, will appeal the decision.
