Zoran Zaev today refused to discuss what his announced resignation will mean for a key promise he made to his coalition partner DUI – that an ethnic Albanian will be named Prime Minister in the last 100 days of the Government. Zaev announced his resignation following the serious defeat in the local elections, and DUI is now trying to talk him out of it, citing among other issues, the promise he made them.
I have no further comment. I said all I had to say at my last press conference, Zaev told a news outlet today.
Zaev threw out another rule – that a technical Government that includes opposition officials is formed in the last 100 days – to make room for the promise he made to Ali Ahmeti and his DUI party. DUI ran in the 2020 elections promising that they will ensure an Albanian as Prime Minister, as they are quickly running out of nationalist concessions to wring out of Zaev after almost five years in coalition together.
