The Prime Minister Zoran Zaev will officialize his resignation from his position in the Government at the end of December, reports “Telma”.
After the defeat in the local elections, Zaev resigned as SDSM leader and prime minister.
At last night’s meeting, smaller coalition partners failed to convince Zaev of his intention to step down as prime minister.
However, he was offered, and allegedly accepted, to officially resign at the end of the year or at the beginning of January. One of the smaller coalition partners, who attended the meeting last night, told “Telma” that it would be unserious for Zaev to change his mind now, but also everyone agreed that vital state interests must be protected.
The reason for that, says the source of “Telma”, are the hopes announced by the Prime Minister for resolving the dispute with Bulgaria and a possible intergovernmental conference with the EU in mid-December.
Although last night DUI and BESA were categorically against Zaev’s resignation, the meeting left room for his possible successor, and the opinion of the coalition partners on this issue will be discussed this week, most likely on Friday.
VMRO DPMNE suspects that the announcement of Zaev’s resignation is a bluff.
