Justice Minister Renata Deskoska revealed that a meeting was held today to discuss the attempt of disgraced Special Prosecutor Katica Janeva to transfer all the case files of her SPO office to the larger OJO office of public prosecutors, while she is in detention accused of abusing the SPO to extort money from businessmen.
Zaev’s Government seems open to the shocking proposal, given the fact that it considers the OJO chief Public Prosecutor Ljubomir Joveski and his organized crime deputy Vilma Ruskoska as loyal to their side, and this option would allow Zaev to continue the political persecution of opposition official that was being carried out through the SPO. Organizing the office of state prosecutors is considered as a matter which requires a 2/3 majority in Parliament, but Zaev’s SDSM party was unable to come to an agreement with the opposition VMRO-DPMNE party, which has been the main target of Zaev’s persecution and demanded that Janeva is replaced with a non-partisan prosecutor who would investigate the many allegations of corruption against the current Government as well. With Janeva’s move, it seems that the Government wants to join the SPO with the OJO service unilaterally, without losing political control over both branches.
Deskoska shared photographs which show her meeting with law professors close to SDSM, Prosecutor Joveski, Lence Ristoska from the SPO office and other officials.
Meanwhile, Alsat TV and several news sites close to SDSM reported that the OJO service of prosecutors has accepted to take over the SPO case-files based on Janeva’s order and that the SPO is preparing to cart them off.
VMRO-DPMNE Secretary General Igor Janusev said that Janeva’s order is illegal, given that, as a detainee, all her authority in the Special Prosecutor’s Office has ended and she is not allowed to do anything that could influence the work of the office, let alone shut it down. Meanwhile Parliament is debating a proposal to remove Janeva from her office, and as things stand, it should breeze through soon.
OJO sources say they want to sleep on it, and think about the request, but given their initial comments they will insist there is no objection to accepting the SPO case-files. The law clearly states that OJO can’t take over cases from the SPO without the written approval of the chief Special Prosecutor. Katica Janeva is in detention and all her authority is suspended. How are we to go around that fact? Or the fact that the procedure in Parliament to remove her from office is in full swing? Not to mention the moral dimension – the entire Macedonian public heard and saw Janeva and knows about her criminal dealings. But what else could we expect from the closest associates and supporters of the pardoned criminal running the country. You just do what you intended to do, the day of justice is coming and there will be room for everybody, Janusev said.
