Vardar 1961 was badly beaten in the first leg of the handball Champions League quarter-final against Veszprem. The Hungarian team beat Vardar on its own home turf, in Skopje, with 30 goals to 22.
Veszprem came back from an early disadvantage of four goals, and won the first half 11:15. Vardar continued to struggle on the attack, and allowed Veszprem to all but seal its place in the semi-finals.
Filip Taleski scored six goals for Vardar – all of them in the first half, while Timur Dibirov added five. The return match is on April 6th.
