Macedonian football players in Tbilisi are celebrating after their 1:0 win over Georgia, which takes them to the 2021 European Championship.
On the pitch, the team broke out in song and dance, singing the classic “Macedonia Pearl of the Balkans” by Goce Nikolovski. The team couldn’t contain themselves and broke into the post-game press conference by coach Igor Angelovski.
This win goes out to Enis Bardhi, who is in bed sick with Covid, and all the other boys who helped us get here. Thank you for all you did, Angelovski said.
Team captain Goran Pandev scored the only goal of the game, which had Macedonia as a slightly better team than the hosts. “I’ve played many great games, but I’ve never been happy like today”, Pandev said after the game.
Celebrations broke out all over Macedonia. Citizens are honking their horns driving through town, and a lot of celebratory gunfire can be heard. Many even broke coronavirus restrictions to follow the game in pubs and cafes.
