Petra Vlhova secured her third slalom victory of the season, dominating the slopes in Kranjska Gora. However, her rival Mikaela Shiffrin endured a forgettable weekend in Slovenia, straddling a gate in the first run.
Over at the Swiss venue of Adelboden, Austrian skier Manuel Feller triumphed in the men’s slalom after a remarkable rise from fifth place following the initial run.
Slovakia’s Vlhova set the pace in the first run, maintaining her lead through the second to claim victory, with Germany’s Lena Dürr trailing by .72 of a second, marking her third runner-up finish of the season.
Following Shiffrin’s mishap, AJ Hurt salvaged pride for the United States, securing her maiden World Cup podium finish in third place, propelled by an impressive second run that propelled her up 13 spots.
Vlhova and Shiffrin have both clinched three slalom victories this season, consistently dominating the top ranks in the discipline. Their dominance continued since Dürr’s win in the Czech Republic in late January 2023.
For Vlhova, it marked her 22nd career slalom win and 31st overall. Meanwhile, Shiffrin, a 93-time race winner, faced disappointment after exiting midway through the first run, following a ninth-place finish in the Kranjska Gora giant slalom.
Shiffrin maintains her lead in the slalom standings, holding a narrow five-point edge over Vlhova. In the overall standings, she leads Vlhova by 207 points.
In Adelboden, Feller clinched victory in the second run, securing his fourth career success and second of the season. Altle Lie McGrath of Norway narrowly missed out on victory by two-hundredths of a second, securing second place, while Austrian Dominik Raschner claimed third after an impressive climb from 16th position, showcasing the best second run.
Feller now leads the slalom standings, while the overall leader Marco Odermatt of Switzerland does not participate in slalom races.
