Outgoing deputy minister Petar Atanasov in a statement for Infomax says that one of the reasons why he leaves the ministry is that he was left out of the preparation of the Draft Law on Education and confirms that there is a lot of ambiguity in the working version of the law, whether the Albanian language becomes mandatory for primary education students irrespective of ethnicity, as such informationit circulates on social networks.
I am leaving for several reasons, but also because I was not part of the process for drafting the Law on Primary Education. I am familiar with the working version of the law in which there are many unclear solutions. What you are mentioning is part of those unclear solutions. The answer to what is offered as a solution can only be given by the minister and his advisers who worked on this law, he said.
Infomax reports that there is ambiguity in Article 6 of the Draft Law on Primary Education, published on June 5, 2019:
Developing the literacy and abilities of students for understanding, informing and expressing, in addition to the Macedonian language and its Cyrillic alphabet, also in the language and alphabet of the members of the communities that speak a language other than the Macedonian language.
Late on Wednesday, the government denied the information.
The Government of the Republic of North Macedonia categorically denies the misinformation that the Albanian language becomes mandatory for all the primary education students and that this is the reason for the resignation of Deputy Minister Atanasov, and asks news portals Infomax, Markukule, Netpress, Kurir and Vecer to withdraw the fake news, apologize to the citizens and inform that they made photo editing in order to act manipulatively. In this way, through inaccurate information, photo editing and other manipulations, attempts are being made to disturb the citizens and disturb the unity in our society. Citizens have the right to be accurately informed, and to this end, all stakeholders in society have a huge responsibility before the public interest. The languages of our communities must not serve to intimidate and manipulate, on the contrary, they are an invaluable treasure of our cultural mosaic, the government said in a press release.
The Ministry of Education and Science is run by DUI, and Arbr Ademi is the Minister.
