Catholics and some Orthodox believers adhering to the Gregorian calendar will observe Christmas Eve on Sunday evening.
In Macedonia, the main festivities will occur at the Roman Catholic Cathedral of the Sacred Heart of Jesus in Skopje. The Christmas Eve Mass there will be led by Kiro Stojanov, the Bishop of Skopje and Eparchial Bishop of the Macedonian Catholic Eparchy of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Strumica-Skopje.
The Greek, Bulgarian, Romanian, Ukrainian, and Georgian Orthodox churches, having adopted the Gregorian calendar, are also set to celebrate Christmas on Monday.
However, other Orthodox communities following the Julian calendar—including the Russian, Serbian, and Macedonian Orthodox Church, as well as the Patriarchate of Jerusalem and the monks at Mount Athos—will mark Christmas on January 7.
