Bulgarian “Trud” daily reports on an event in 1969 when then Yugoslavia sent a major delegation to honor Ss. Cyril and Methodius at the grave of St. Cyril in Rome.

The paper reports that the delegation was set at an unusually high level, and included, among others, members of the Macedonian Government, such as Vlado Maleski. The ironic moment is that Maleski’s son, Macedonia’s first Foreign Affairs Minister after independence Denko Maleski, made a U-turn and, from a major supporter of Yugoslavia and the policies set in Belgrade, is now an equally ardent supporter of Bulgaria. Among other positions that Denko Maleski now supports is that the medieval period of the Macedonian history actually belongs to Bulgaria, and his positions are often quoted in the Bulgarian press.

But, this runs contrary to the fact that his own father was part of the decision to allow Macedonia, as then part of Yugoslavia, to elevate the honoring of the two Slavic apostles to a level of a national event.
