Prime Minister Zoran Zaev to nominate the current governor of the National Bank, Anita Angelovska Bezhoska as the new Minister of Finance and former Minister of Economy Fatmir Besimi to replace her. This is the condition that the Democratic Union for Integration has given SDSM, after the decision of the Anti-Corruption Commission that the Prime Minister cannot fully perform the position of Minister of Finance.
DUI told the Koha newspaper that they expect SDSM to respect the agreement from two years ago to appoint Besimi as the head of the National Bank of Macedonia, because it was also one of the points of the ruling coalition agreement.
It is important that we did not give up the idea of Albanian staff, of course, a professional, to run the National Bank of North Macedonia. This was one of the points when the departments were divided along with SDSM when the ruling coalition was formed, DUI told Koha.
“Koha” reports that the attempts to appoint a new finance minister have been stopped in SDSM, since DUI reminded the prime minister of the governor’s post.
Now, after Anti-Corruption’s decision that Zaev cannot be finance minister and prime minister at the same time, and now that the ministry’s signature and seal is in the hands of Deputy Minister Shirete Elezi, the prime minister contemplated a new name in order for the state treasury to be in the hands of SDSM.
