Prompted by the Macedonian Information Agency correspondent in Brussels, the European Commission merely said that they have noted the resignation of Special Prosecutor Katica Janeva.
A Commission spokesman also repeated the EC position that the political parties in Macedonia should support finding a sustainable solution to the Special Prosecutor’s Office, and that investigations on the illegal wiretaps, which the SPO was formed to do, should continue.
The EU was strong supporter of the creation of the SPO, and demanded that Janeva is given free rein to prosecute politicians and businesspeople based on the illegally recorded wiretaps. Janeva resigned yesterday, hours after her friend Bojan Jonanovski – Boki 13 was arrested on the charge that he extorted 1.5 million EUR from businessman Jordan Orce Kamcev, on the pretext that he will get Janeva to drop her charges against Kamcev.
