Fetai’s attempt to relativize her bonuses through MPs’ travel expenses, for which the public has reacted sharply and is still reacting, is a sign of despair and recognition for the position. On the other hand, confirming the relevance of her bonuses, Fetai also confirmed the published data on additional payments to other employees of or hired by the SPO. The Public Prosecutor’s Office is on the move to open an investigation under Article 353 5 5 of the CC (abuse of power) and Article 354 paragraph 3 (embezzlement).

This should especially apply to the period after June 2017, after which SPO no longer had any mandate to initiate new cases, MP Antonio Milososki said in that regard.

Prosecutor Fatime Fetai today publicly defended the additional income she and her colleagues received at the SPO. Regarding the bonuses, Fetai pointed out that this was money that had been talked about publicly at press conferences before, and that it was covered by the Law on Special Prosecutor’s Office, which was passed with the establishment of the SPO. She clarified that the amounts were determined by special prosecutor Katica Janeva, which was in accordance with the SPO law.

In general, each prosecutor received about 22,000 euros, which is not far from the travel expenses paid to some lawmakers, Fatime Fetai said.

However, Fetai’s bonuses exceed 22,000 euros more than double. Janeva apparently did not hide her satisfaction with Fetai’s services, so she was very generous to her and allocated 74,400 euros. For four years on a salary basis, disputed confidentiality fees, representations, travel expenses and per diems, prosecutor Fetai received about 285,000 euros.
