The Anti-Corruption Commission decided to begin an investigation into the two living former presidents, Branko Crvenkovski and Gjorge Ivanov, over the way in which they are spending the public funds provided after their terms are up.
Under law, the presidents have the right to request funding for an office and a few employees. President Ivanov, who faced numerous threats of persecution on the part of the Zoran Zaev regime, was dragged through the pro-Government press after he signed a contract to lease office space as his term ended earlier this month. The same media outlets were also calling Ivanov out over the purchase of apartments while in office.
President Crvenkovski, who has maintained his office and staff since 2009, is also being caught up in the investigation. Newly elected President Stevo Pendarovski announced he will audit Ivanov’s mandate and began leaking information to his friendly press over alleged overspending.
