The Alternativa party led by Afrim Gashi opened the idea to bring the Alliance of Albanians into Zaev’s coalition. Given the tense relations between Ziadin Sela’s AA and the currently largest Albanian party in the coalition, Ali Ahmeti’s DUI, Gashi’s statement is seen as a call not to bolster the coalition but replace Ahmeti’s party with Sela’s.

Pendarovski was able to win only after receiving a much larger boost from Albanian districts, who broke almost unanimously for him, after the votes won by the opposition AA candidate were re-distributed in the second round. This has prompted frantic disputes among Albanian political leaders over who exactly contributed the most to Pendarovski’s winning margin, and by extension, who should gain the spoils of the victory..
