Zoran Zaev should prepare his resignation letter, said VMRO-DPMNE official Vladimir Gjorcev, as the conservative party extended its string of victories into the second round of the local elections.
Zaev pledged to resign as Prime Minister if his candidate Petre Silegov loses the mayoral race in Skopje – which currently seems like a certainty.

Zoran Zaev should prepare his resignation letter. Spare us the theatrics where he will submit a resignation to the SDSM Central Committee only to have them reject it. No, the people have spoken and Zoran Zaev needs to go, said Gjorcev, who is traditionally the first party official to announce election results.

VMRO supporters are descending to the party office in Skopje and to offices across the country, with brass bands in tow, to support the victory. As things stand, SDSM will keep control in only one major city – Zaev’s Strumica, and one, possibly two major urban centers in Skopje, and a dozen small cities and urban areas, while the rest of the country will be led by VMRO candidates, independent candidates or representatives of the Albanian parties.
