Former Prime Minister Nikola Gruevski will not be prosecuted for abuses in the construction of the Stip-Miladinovci and Kicevo-Ohrid highways in the “Trajectory” case due to expired statute of limitations, the Criminal Court confirmed on Wednesday.

This comes after Gruevski’s ex officio lawyer requested to the court that the case is declared expired as six years had passed since the crime was committed according to SPO’s indictment and there was no final verdict.

In this case, Gruevski was charged with “receiving a reward for Illegal influence” under Art. 359 para. 2 of the Criminal Code, which stipulates a prison sentence of one to three years, and therefore expires in six years, counted from 2013.
