Analyzing the official results of the elections in Stip, it is noticed that the election of Sasko Nikolov almost failed.
Only 11, 668 citizens of Stip voted for the candidate of SDSM Sasko Nikolov, but that would not have been enough if the other candidates, mostly Simon Polikarp from the Integra party led by Ljupco Ristovski, did not make the necessary census.
With the amendments to the Electoral Law, the election for mayor is considered successful if one third of the registered voters vote.
In the case in Stip, 41,777 voters were eligible to vote, and 14,528 voters went to the polls. Mathematically, that is exactly one third, ie as much as the minimum voter turnout.
If Integra’s candidate had not participate in the elections, they would have failed and the whole procedure would have had to be repeated.
In addition to Polikarp, three other candidates participated in the elections in Stip who won a total of less than 1,000 votes.
