It’s a shame that terrorists who were part of ISIS, who were fighting in Iraq and Syria got three times smaller sentences from the convicts for 27 April 27, the opposition VMRO-DPMNE said.

It is a shame that returnees from the Middle East wars, terrorists who fought on the side of ISIS, who executed people on ideological basis, got prison sentences of 6 years, three times smaller than those given to police officers in the politically motivated 27 April case. The members of ISIS got smaller sentences that patriots and members of the Macedonian security forces who committed their lives in the defense of the Republic of Macedonia, who got 211 years in prison and were declared terrorists, the main opposition party said in a press release.

The party says that political prisoners are not a feature of a democratic state, an aspirant for EU membership. The party emphasizes that Macedonia is the only country in a democratic Europe that has political prisoners in its prisons.

Like the verdicts, the detentions in the politically motivated 27 April case, are another gross violation of fundamental human rights and legal principles. The detention of the convicts is unfounded and void, since the money guarantees given by the defendants are still in force, VMRO-DPMNE says.

The Skopje Criminal Court sentenced Thursday six Macedonian citizens, who were part of the ISIS paramilitary group, to six years in prison, while one of the defendants was sentenced to nine years in prison for a “terrorist organization” as an additional crime that he is charged with.
