Bulgarian Defense Minister Krasimir Karakacanov said that realistically his country won’t allow the opening of EU accession talks with Macedonia by the end of 2020. Karakacanov placed the chances Bulgaria changes its mind in the real of theory.

Bulgaria has always maintained a positive attitude toward the Western Balkan accession but we always said it can’t be without preconditions and the Republic of Macedonia must meet some criteria. Chief among them is its attitude toward Bulgaria. We see that hatred toward Bulgaria is ingrained not just in their history books but in movies, books.. There is no village without at least one plaque against Bulgaria, Karakacanov said, referring to the monuments and films about the World War Two period of Bulgarian rule over Macedonia.
