Football player and Macedonian national team player Gjoko Zajkov, after a 48-hour journey from the city of Poltava in eastern Ukraine, left the war-torn country through Hungary tonight. Zajkov signed to play for the club from Poltava. Zajkov and his wife and young son traveled from one end of Ukraine to the other by car to the Zahoni border crossing in Hungary.
The trip was a difficult journey of great concern given the Russian invasion. However, the long road passed without major problems. They were traveling together with another car carrying Croatian football players.
They were welcomed in Hungary by the parents of one of the Croatian football players and now they are safe and preparing to return to Macedonia. Zajkov was in constant contact with the Macedonian Ambassador to Hungary and the government.
