As of March 1, Macedonian citizens will be able to travel to EU countries if they have been fully vaccinated against Covid-19 or have recovered from the disease. This comes after the European Council recommended lifting the ban on non-essential travel for persons from non-EU countries.

Although this is only a recommendation and countries do not have to follow it, Italy has already stated that it will implement it. Until now, many EU member states have not allowed tourist trips from countries outside the eurozone.

The European Council stressed that the vaccines approved by the European Medicines Agency (EMA) or the World Health Organization (WHO), which does not include the Russian “Sputnik”, will be accepted. However, travelers vaccinated with a WHO-approved vaccine other than the EMA-approved will have to present a negative test. This refers to the vaccines of the Chinese manufacturers “Sinopharm” and “Sinovac”, which are not approved in the EU yet.
