VMRO-DPMNE leader Hristijan Mickoski together with the presidential candidate, Gordana Siljanovska Davkova, met Wednesday in Brussels with MEP and European Parliament rapporteur, Edward Kukan and MEP Marijana Petir.

At the meeting, President Mickoski pointed out that the rule of law in the Republic of Macedonia are threatened and that the country faces a widespread phenomenon of corruption, which is noted in relevant reports of international organizations.

Political persecution and the abuse of state apparatus for calculation with the opposition becomes the basis of the government’s political action. On the other hand, we have a setback with respect for human rights and the absence of will to work on establishing lasting mechanisms for combating crime. While all of this is happening, we have a complete downgrade of the economic standard of citizens and widespread migration from the country, which is the consequence of the harmful policies of the Government, said Mickoski.

Gordana Siljanovska Davkova explained her commitment to the rule of law and a strong legal state that will have to guarantee human rights and freedoms.

In that sense, the president of the state has important powers that should provide protection of citizens and legal certainty. It is undoubtedly an important precondition for progress towards European integration, which is our strategic goal, Siljanovska said.

The interlocutors stressed that a very important condition that will show how serious the state is in pursuing the strategic goals is the manner in which the election period passes, where it is essential that the authorities provide conditions for fair and democratic expression of citizens.

There were also examples showing that the Government threatens the democratic pre-election environment.

The visit of the VMRO-DPMNE delegation led by leader Hristijan Mickoski, composed of the candidate for President of the Republic of Macedonia, Gordana Siljanovska Davkova, VMRO-DPMNE Vice President Aleksandar Nikoloski and the Secretary for International Cooperation Timco Mucunski, continues its work through the participation of the political assembly the European People’s Party and the realization of several bilateral meetings.
