Within the framework of the Black Sea Initiative, Foreign Minister Nikola Dimitrov will meet Thursday in Sofia with senior political representatives of Bulgaria to define their position on Goce Delcev as a historical person, as well as to contribute to finding a mutually acceptable solution.

He revealed Wednesday evening on the “Samo vistina” show that during the weekend he read original letters from Delcev, which most likely served as preparation before his departure to Bulgaria.

Dimitrov already said that Macedonia and Bulgaria should not build hostilities over Delcev’s character and work after our easter neighbor made political remarks that Bulgaria could build a negative view of Macedonia’s EU integration bid unless a mutually acceptable solution is found, even though a good neighborly agreement was signed in 2017.

At the time of our hero Goce Delcev, we did not have a state and he participated in a huge foundation of our statehood, in the creation of a political nation, which is very close to the creation of ethnic identification. Over the weekend I found an archive and I read original letters from Goce Delcev that he sent to Nikola Malesevski and other comrades. He was an incredible visionary, and at that time, in the “Goce Constitution,” he demanded a fight with the so-called ” Tyranny, not with the Ottomans. His vision can serve to us as a bridge with Bulgaria, the Macedonian Foreign Minister said on the TV show.

In the meantime, correspondence between Macedonia and Bulgaria continued on Goce Delcev, that is, his identity. Bulgarian MEP Angel Dzambaski says the integration of Macedonia into NATO and the EU can happen only through the path of recognition of the true history.

According to Bulgaria’s Prime Minister Boyko Borisov, Goce Delcev is the Bulgarian Che Guevara, who had sacrificed everything for a free Macedonia.

A week ago Bulgarian Foreign Minister Ekaterina Zaharieva said she would not make a compromise with the truth and that she did not want anything more than the truth from North Macedonia.

The committee of historians has yet to decide how Delchev will be jointly honored and what will be written about him in history books.
