The strike of public school teachers enters into its second day, as over 25,000 elementary, high school and kindergarten teachers are boycotting work. Only a few kindergartens in Skopje, Valandovo and Gevgelija opened in violation of the strike call issued by the SONK union.

We are happy that there are no incidents, and no children were left at the door. The message to the Government is clear – there is tremendous dissatisfaction in the schools as teachers see their social standing deteriorate, said SONK President Jakim Nedelkov.
Education Minister Jeton Shaqiri said that he respects the right to strike but that this should have been the final step after longer negotiations.
