VMRO-DPMNE deputy leader Aleksandar Nikoloski said that Macedonia remaining with Albania in an EU enlargement package will be harmful for Macedonian interests and for its territorial integrity. Nikoloski blamed the Zoran Zaev Government of not even trying to decouple Macedonia from Albania, which would’ve enabled the opening of EU accession talks.
What was Zaev doing for this past year and a half? Nothing other than stealing and spreading corruption. Zaev and Nikola Dimitrov should’ve gone from one European capital to the next, demanding and begging that Macedonia and Albania are decoupled in the EU accession talks. Keeping Macedonia coupled to Albania is damaging for our territorial integrity, it endangers our borders, Nikoloski said.
Macedonia was seen as the better candidate of the two and one which would be able to open surpass French opposition to opening the EU accession talks easier alone than in group with Albania. But, Zaev’s Government and his coalition are largely dependent on the ethnic Albanian voters, and the Tirana Platform promoted in 2017 by Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama, which made it all but impossible for Zaev to put Macedonian national interests first. Ultimately countries such as Germany and Italy were opposed to decoupling the two states and both lost the EU accession talks date. A number of Albanian politicians responded to the European Council snub by calling for national unification and otherwise lashing out against the EU.
In an interview with Alfa TV, Nikoloski accused Zaev of other misplaced priorities, such as the push to further legalize marijuana production, which is likely to benefit Zaev’s family business. This law was adopted under the expedited procedure meant to be used only for laws that advance Macedonia on the road to the EU.
While formally fighting for a date to open EU accession talks, Zaev pushed forward a law to legalize the exports of dried marijuana flowers sticking the EU flag on it. This is total abuse of the enlargement process, which has nothing to do with marijuana production. And then he is surprised why EU leaders won’t let him open the accession talks, Nikoloski added.
In an interview with the V4 news agency, Nikoloski said that he expects a big win for VMRO-DPMNE, given widespread dissatisfaction by the citizens with the policies imposed by Zoran Zaev.
Zaev’s policies, concerning the national humiliation of the Macedonian people and the economic failures coupled with the Soros-oriented politics, have destroyed Macedonia in the last 3 years. Zaev is an example of how something that’s been properly built up over the past decades can be destroyed in three short years because of the leftist politics of one government and the many people supported by the Soros based foundations and NGOs. We would like to renew Macedonia by rebuilding it to bring back the conservative Christian values in the country and to fight together for a better economy and for better living standards, Nikoloski told V4.
