VMRO-DPMNE presidential candidate Gordana Siljanovska – Davkova rallied her supporters in her home town of Kicevo yesterday, where she promised to be President for both people from both sides of the bitter political divide. Siljanovska expressed her gratitude to VMRO for nominating her in an attempt to heal Macedonia, despite the fact that she initially supported the so-called Colored Revolution.
I want to bring together both the members and supporters of VMRO-DPMNE and the disappointed members of SDSM, those who are bitter from the outcome of the Colored Revolution, Siljanovska said.
The campaign of protests which SDSM energized with the help of a cache of wiretaps given to the party by rogue intelligence service elements, began as a university protest. Siljanovska was among the university professors who requested that a law which would increase scrutiny of the grades professors are awarding is withdrawn. But, as the months went by, it became apparent that the protests have a different goal – renaming and redefining the Macedonian state.
According to Siljanovska, SDSM completely betrayed the stated goals of the Colored Revolution, chief among them was justice and accountability. Many of the “leaders of the revolution” have since been employed in the Zaev PR service, while the rest have either moved out of the country or post an occasional social media comment decrying the outcome of the protests.
Macedonia now has serious problems, a serious democratic deficit. We expected changes, they promised “life” but we saw that nothing came of it. The only reform this “reformist” Government accomplished was to rename us. There is not a trace of the promised rule of law. Power remains concentrated in the hands of the executive, of the Prime Minister. Our rights and liberties are threatened, Siljanovska said.
The professor also blasted the Zoran Zaev regime for failing on other promises, such as the stated goal of quickly reducing pollution. In reality, a botched attempt to restart the decrepit Oslomej coal plan in Kicevo left the city covered in soot for a whole day last June. “We need to declare a state of emergency over the pollution levels”, Siljanovska said.
