VMRO-DPMNE presidential candidate Gordana Siljanovska – Davkova expects that the discussion on opening EU accession talks with Macedonia will be postponed for Autumn. Zoran Zaev was desperate to receive the green light to open talks in June, and to have it confirmed before the May 5th presidential elections, but France, the Netherlands and Denmark are strongly opposed to future EU enlargement.
The Prime Minister wanted the accession talks so he could use it in the pre-election campaign. He doesn’t really care about judicial independence in the Republic of Macedonia. But, we received a strong message that we need to begin implementing real reforms. The Prime Minister and the people around him were convinced that it is enough to sign the Prespa treaty and he can use it to request accession talks. I’m convinced that that is not enough all by itself, Siljanovska said during a rally in Prilep.
