A recent statement by Deputy Prime Minister Radmila Sekerinska, that Macedonia needs a wholesale change in the way the country works surprised her supporters and critics alike. Sekerinska has been in politics all her life, as party leader and deputy Prime Minister in various SDSM governments.

The system is so rotten, it is dependent on the good will of the public administration, or as some call it, on its corruption. If we don’t change that part of the system, no purge will be enough for the citizens. We need to have a system where whoever knocks on the door of the public administration receives the same reception and the law applies equally to all, Sekerinska said in an interview.

Still during, her most recent stint in the Government, now entering its second year, no changes were made, prompting her SDSM party to promise a major purge of its own corrupt officials.
