June came and there is no date for negotiations, VMRO-DPMNE Vice-President Aleksandar Nikoloski said at Thursday’s press conference dedicated to the European Commission’s Progress Report on Macedonia.
Nikoloski welcomed the EC recommendation and recalled that until now eight recommendations have not turned into a start of accession negotiations because of Greece’s due to the name dispute and the veto they have used.
Despite the name change, Macedonia will not get a date for opening accession negotiations again because there are no reforms, noted Nikoloski.
Last year Zaev and Dimitrov agreed on the embarrassing Prespa agreement on renaming Macedonia. However, despite the signing of the agreement on June 16, there was no date for the start of EU accession negotiations on June 29, although this was the biggest promise Zaev and Dimitrov gave. This year’s repeated recommendation only shows that last year both Zaev and Dimitrov, as well as the Government, lied that there was a date to open accession negotiations. And there is no date because there are no reforms. There were no reforms last year as there are no reforms this year.
As things stand now, sadly this year also there will be no date for the start of negotiations. So there is no dispute with Greece, but there still is no date for the start of EU accession negotiations.
If the problem was the name dispute in the past, and there was no lack of reforms, now there is a lack of reforms. Something that the entire people and all citizens of the Republic of Macedonia can see, said the Vice President of VMRO-DPMNE.
