A delegation of the Venice Commission is paying Thursday a visit to Skopje for meetings with MP groups on the requested opinion over the Law on the Use of Languages.
Representatives of the Venice Commission Delegation will meet with MPs from DUI, SDSM, VMRO-DPMNE and the independent parliamentary group from VMRO-DPMNE. They will have a joint meeting with members of political parties from the smaller ethnic communities, as well as a joint meeting with MPs from Alternative, Alliance for Albanians and BESA Movement.
Prior to the practical implementation of the law, the Government requested an opinion on bilingualism, and in addition to the full text of the law, both disputed articles on bilingual money and Army uniforms were sent.
It sparked a conflict between the SDSM, which first wanted to examine whether there would be implications for the bilingualism of money and uniforms, as well as for other provisions, while DUI was in a hurry and eager for faster enforcement of the law.
Prime Minister Zoran Zaev confirmed that all remarks by the Venice Commission will be implemented.
