Members of the Skopje city council from VMRO-DPMNE called on Mayor Petre Silegov to give up on his plan to spend 200,000 EUR on decorating the city for the New Year and to reallocate the money toward buying computers for children of poor families, struggling to attend online schooling.

This is reckless spending at a time when the city is hit by the coronavirus epidemic and people dying every day. Only Silegov feels like having a New Year party, spending 200,000 EUR for decorations while children can’t follow online classes due to lack of computers, VMRO-DPMNE council members said.

Silegov still hasn’t provided answers for the huge celebration he organized last year, with a Dino Merlin concert, which he insisted was paid for by “anonymous donors” – only for the public to later find out that the money were being redistributed through city institutions.
