With the onset of colder weather, Macedonian cities are again setting records in air pollution – owing to the use of wood and waste for heating.
Kumanovo briefly shot to the top of the rankings of worst polluted cities on Saturday, as citizens complained on the social media of an unbearable stench spreading through the city. And now Skopje is picking up, reaching the 10th place worldwide according to the air quality index.
The winter still ahead of us, and weather has been warm, almost summer like, but next week is expected to bring a drop in temperatures, which is in turn certain to elevate air pollution levels.
