Prime Minister of the Government of North Macedonia Zoran Zaev had a private audience with His Holiness Pope Francis as part of the program of the Pope’s Apostolic Visit to Macedonia.
PM Zaev and Pope Francis reconfirmed the centuries-long spiritual bonds binding the papal state and our country, established with the mission of the holy brothers, Ss. Cyril and Methodius, whose deed is honored in Rome and Vatican every year, the Government said in a press release.
Zaev pointed out that this Apostolic visit was an inspiration to the people of North Macedonia and asked Pope Francis to pray for the good of the citizens and the country.
“PM Zaev and Pope Francis highlighted North Macedonia’s efforts to continue its affirmation as a land of unity and tolerance, following the example and deed of Ss. Cyril and Methodius, who were declared patrons of Europe in 1980 in Vatican,” the press release reads.
Pope Francis also greeted the PM’s family, who joined the end of the meeting.
