After the latest public controversy over the legacy of Macedonian hero Goce Delcev, Prime Minister Zoran Zaev said that the new Skopje – Stip highway will be named after the VMRO leader.
If the decision has been made, it will remain as such, Zaev said, when asked by the journalists about the name of the highway, which the previous, VMRO-DPMNE led Government named after Goce Delcev.
Commuters noticed that the highway has no signs declaring its name, even after Zaev staged a public opening ceremony on Saturday, and this raised questions that the highway may also be renamed, like the Alexander the Great highway which Zaev renamed into “Friendship”, in an attempt to placate Greece. Bulgaria considers Goce Delcev to be a Bulgarian hero and recently stepped up its demands that Macedonia acknowledges him as such.
