Regarding the battle in Ukraine in 2024, the French ambassador to the UN Security Council, who is in charge for the month of January, expresses pessimism.

“I believe it’s not getting better, I believe it’s getting worse,” stated Nicolas de Rivière, France’s UN ambassador, in New York on Tuesday.

According to de Rivière, there has been a rise in Russian drone and missile assaults, which are clearly directed on the civilian infrastructure of Ukraine.

“There is a clear agenda, designed to scare the population,” he stated. “All of this is totally contrary to international humanitarian law.”

De Rivière stated that while there was no chance of short-term talks between the warring groups, it was still urgent to continue efforts to bring about peace in Ukraine.
