President Joe Biden is scheduled to host Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky at the White House on Tuesday, aiming to urge Congress to break its deadlock over approving additional military aid for Kiev.

Biden’s invitation to Zelensky emphasizes the unwavering US commitment to supporting Ukraine amid Russia’s aggressive invasion, as announced by the White House beforehand.

The leaders are set to discuss “Ukraine’s pressing needs and the crucial necessity of ongoing US support during this pivotal juncture,” according to the statement.

During his visit, Zelensky plans to engage with Congressional members, including Republican House Speaker Mike Johnson. This marks Zelensky’s third visit to Washington since Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine began.

Starting his US trip, Zelensky met with Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin, who reiterated the country’s dedication to assisting Ukraine against Russia’s aggression. Zelensky reaffirmed Ukraine’s commitment to self-defense, expressing reliance on both their efforts and US support.

The existing funds allocated for Ukraine are anticipated to be depleted by year-end, with the release of new US aid hindered by a political standoff between Democrats and Republicans.

There’s a growing trend among Republicans expressing skepticism about backing Ukraine, contributing to the domestic impasse over aid release.
