Kosovo President Hashim Thaci has signed decrees putting into effect the three laws which enable the transformation of the Kosovo Security Forces into a military formation, the Beta news agency reported on Friday.

Thaci signed the decrees at a ceremony attended by Security Forces commnader Rahman Rama. He signed the laws on the Defence Ministry, the Security Forces and service in those force which the Kosovo parliament adopted on December 14. The laws will take effect 15 days after publication in the Kosovo Official Gazette.

The adopting of the laws and the start to the transformation into a fully-fledged military force drew condemnation from official Belgrade and criticism from some countries which official Pristina considers allies. NATO Secretary General said Kosovo has the sovereign right to form an army but that the moment is not right.
