Finance Minister Fatmir Besimi said that the Ministry paid 4 billion denars (65 million EUR) to the ELEM company for emergency purchases of electricity.

ELEM is Macedonia’s main state owned energy producing company, and is currently completely failing at its job due to corruption and mismanagement of its REK Bitola coal plant and overuse of hydro potential during the summer. Macedonia is left almost without domestically produced electricity and is dependent on imports.
