In the event of Russia suspending natural gas supply to Europe, alternative ways to deliver gas via Greece’s Alexandroupoli are being sought, government’s sources have said.
The country fully supplies its natural gas needs from Russia, via a pipeline from Bulgaria. Most of the economic operators in the country operate on natural gas.
Europe is also considering cutting off gas supplies in response to EU sanctions on Moscow, as about 40 percent of Europe’s natural gas is imported from Russia. Germany will be particularly hard hit, as more than half of the country’s natural gas consumption comes from Russian supplies.
