The Green Market, one of the largest farmers markers in Skopje, was closed today due to a protest against the new law introducing additional costs for operating in the market, as well as banning retirees from working there.

We already pay 20.000 denars in taxes every year in order to able to work here. We demand that these taxes are abolished – this is our livelihood here. We have a load of other taxes and this is the last thing we needed. We demand that we are heard, and if not, we’ll become more radical in our protests, say Green Market proprietors.

The law will prevent retirees but also people who receive some sort of income through their checking accounts from renting a selling point at the farmers markets. The cost of renting the booth is set at 3.600 denars (55 EUR) for one point and 2.400 more for every additional booth.
