In a recent press release, the National Bank announced that over 200 employees from commercial banks and financial institutions have undergone training conducted by experts in counterfeit money detection. The primary objective of this training is to equip cash handlers with the skills to promptly identify suspicious banknotes, ensuring their swift removal from circulation and subsequent delivery to the central bank.

The National Bank’s experts regularly conduct mandatory training courses focusing on the security features of both domestic and foreign currencies. This ongoing initiative aims to enhance the vigilance of staff working in financial institutions, banks, and cash centers.

The expansion of the training program is attributed to the recommendation of the EU Twinning project, “Strengthening the capacities of the system for the fight against counterfeiting of EUR” in Macedonia. Notably, the training has now been extended to include representatives from the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Customs Administration, the Public Prosecutor’s Office, and the Financial Police Office.

The press release highlights that the central bank actively engages in expert analysis and collaborates with international institutions to provide support in addressing issues related to counterfeit money.
