Beginning in July, at around the two years mark for his Government, Prime Minister Zoran Zaev said that the citizens will finally receive the promised reimbursement of 15 percent of their value added tax spending.

According to Zaev, this would mean that some 150 million EUR in collected consumption taxes will be returned to the consumers.

I promise courage and determination. We will have an economy that provides a dignified life for the citizens. We must have economically satisfied citizens, said Zaev.

He did not elaborate why the Government did not opt to simply lower the VAT tax by 15% and will instead use to costlier round-about way to first collect the taxes and then make a public show of returning a small portion of the money. This was the main announcement at Zaev’s press conference on Sunday, when he presented his economic policies going forward.
