After the controversy with Bulgaria, when it became clear that Bulgaria would not agree to Macedonia starting EU accession talks, speculation began. Whether anyone influenced Bulgaria, the decision, they have strong pro-Russian feelings. The Bulgarians now say, we have not vetoed, but we must monitor all the situation in the region. They have their reasons. We find the reasons ridiculous, but that is why we have a veto on a veto (Czech Republic and Slovakia) and because of a nebulous interpretation of history. The Slovaks were explicit in their explanation of Cyril and Methodius. I am convinced that Bulgaria did not do this without the silent support of the EU. Zaharieva said yesterday that Bulgaria is not the only country opposing, that there are other countries as well. They make different statements. Bulgaria was under pressure, maybe not as much as the Macedonian citizens wanted, said prof. Dalibor Jovanovski, historian on TV24’s “Studio 10” show.
