A large police raid, reportedly supported by the US DEA organization, led to the seizure of hundreds of kilograms of synthetic drugs.

The drugs were flown into the Skopje airport, hidden in a shipment of mobile phone parts that were ordered by a phone store in the capital. Customs office allowed the shipment to leave the airport, as the police laid an ambush. It’s believed that customs agents and border police officers were involved in the smuggling.

If confirmed that the DEA is involved, this would be the second such high profile bust, after the raid that led to the arrest of the police commissioner of Prilep Kiril Spirkoski and the driver of Trajce Zaev, cousin of Prime Minister Zoran Zaev, in April. They were arrested as they were escorting 200 kilograms of marijuana, grown on a farm apparently owned by the Zaev family.
