VMRO-DPMNE President Hristijan Mickoski addressed the protesters gathered in front of the Government building today, saying that the traffic jam the protest caused over several hours is worth it if it helps prevent inflicting damage on the future of our children and grand-children.

It is for their sake that we had to react promptly and decisively. We have warned in the past that the Government mustn’t sign treaties that, instead of offering solutions, will only cause additional problems. Here we included the Friendship treaty with Buglaria.

VMRO-DPMNE and other governments in the past were discussing such a treaty, but never dared sign anything containing such clauses. The treaty raises issues with our origin, the root of our language, strikes at historic facts and all this is now de-facto made criteria for our EU membership. This treaty will never bring Macedonia into a untied Europe, as part of the European family – on the contrary, it will be an instrument of continued pressure, blackmail and terror over the Macedonian people, the Macedonian nation and the Macedonian state, Mickoski said.

Mickoski said that only a political amateur like Zoran Zaev could agree to such a treaty that would condition Macedonia’s EU accession on matters of national identity and history. HE said that MVRO-DPMNE will continue to protest Zaev’s planned concessions, and called for a new rally on Tuesday, at 15h, when the Government and the Foreign Affairs Ministry will again be blockaded for an hour and a half.
