Family members and friends of two young men who died in a traffic accident last summer are expressing their outrage after the driver who caused it was given a suspended sentence.
Besides the two fatalities, three girls were badly injured in the crash on the Ohrid – St. Naum road. They claim that the driver was going at twice the allowed speed was he hit the car the youngsters were in. One of them was killed on the spot, and another succumbed to his injuries a month later.
But the verdict, handed by the Ohrid court, was a mere suspended sentence of four years, and a fine of 3,000 EUR. The sentence was handed in late October, and the friends of the killed are now launching a media campaign to demand that the Ohrid Appeals Court overturns it and hands an appropriate prison sentence.
The news of the sentence comes after a similarly criticized verdict in Gostivar, where a well known mobster Zoran Mileski – Zoki Kiceec was sentenced to six months in prison for crashing into and killing a young father of two, while he was supposed to be in prison serving a sentence for his role in the major Racket scandal.
