In a recent interview with Sitel TV on Tuesday, President Stevo Pendarovski highlighted the longstanding systemic issues within the Macedonian judiciary that demand fundamental changes rather than mere personnel adjustments. Pendarovski stressed that the persistent challenges cannot be effectively tackled through isolated dismissals.

“The issues are deeply rooted and call for comprehensive structural alterations. Addressing or mitigating these problems necessitates systemic reforms. One critical aspect is a thorough vetting process within the judiciary. Regrettably, in the period following the change in power in 2016 and 2017, despite the counsel from prominent European officials, we didn’t embark on this process. Reflecting on the consequences of this absence of vetting in Macedonia, the situation couldn’t have been more unfavorable had we conducted a comprehensive vetting,” remarked Pendarovski.

Furthermore, he touched upon the impact of the US blacklist, underscoring its role in heightening awareness among political figures. “The stance of America on the rule of law carries significance, and I personally conveyed to the US ambassador the importance of continuing in that direction,” President Pendarovski added.
